Are there opportunities for residents to participate in international rotations or away electives?

Yes. There are a variety of ways residents can participate. Residents can arrange rotations on an individual basis, or can apply for the Geographical Medicine Scholars Program. The program consists of a 12 month curriculum to create global health competency with monthly symposiums, travel clinic participation, and an “in country practicum” where scholars will be funded to spend one month abroad. Faculty from the U of C and a partnering institution will lead scholars in patient care, education and cultural exchange. The present site is established in South India. Future sites will include, but are not limited to Bangladesh, Brazil, Nepal, and Kenya. Roundtrip airfare, in country transportation and one month of accommodations will be provided for funded positions. Since positions may be competitive depending on demand, there may be additional partially-funded or un-funded positions available.
