Are there natural controls that can be used to keep rust manageable?
Not really. I am not aware of any predators, parasites, or diseases of rust fungi that are exploited for control of any pest species of rust. Quarantine, sanitation, fungicides, and tolerant varieties are the major methods of control. Bothrotes canaliculatus, a Tenebrionid beetle that feeds on fungi, has recently been reported feeding on rust spores, but they are unlikely to eat a significant amount of rust.
