Are there more ways to show love/like/respect than there are to show dislike/disrespect/disdain?
(Another brilliant question, Rosie. I’m starting to think that you’re cornering the market here!) Because of the sinfulness of humanity and our tendency toward selfishness and self-seeking, I would think that there are many more ways to tear down another person than to build him/her up. Even the great number of horror movies and gangsta rap songs (as examples) that demonstrate humans tearing apart other humans in their words and deeds– and the appetite of audiences to partake of such “entertainments”– shows that we are not naturally inclined toward that which is wholesome and edifying to the building up of ourselves and our neighbor. Otherwise, there would be increasing numbers of movies about how to better serve, honor, and love one’s neighbor instead of glorifying the violence against him/her. It would be noble to pursue, create, and brainstorm new ways to demonstrate love and respect– but this would take a very sustained and deliberate exercise of the will to maintain. It may be
