Are there many cases of crimes and injustice towards Indigenous Australians?
Throughout Australia there is evidence that Aboriginal persons are over-represented in police and penal custody and that violent crimes against Aborigines, like that which killed Errol Wyles and Mulrunji Doomadgee, are inadequately prosecuted. In recent history Aboriginal communities have faced the trauma of the forced removal of their children and the theft of their wages, social security benefits and other entitlements. They also continue to suffer from the failure of the criminal justice system to recognise and protect them. Aborigines suffer from poverty, special health problems and the continual stigma of prejudice and disenfranchisement.
