Are There Long Term Effects From Ammonia Toxicity?
Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by hepatitis or cirrhosis. High ammonia levels increase disturbance of neurotransmission and synthesis of both GABA and glutamine and cause neurotoxcity leading to irritability, somnolence, vomiting, cerebral edema, and coma that leads to death.
