Are there limitations on how many files can be in a windows directory?

It depends on the version of Windows, or more specifically the type of the file system.

For modern PCs with an NTFS-formatted disk, the limit is just over 4 billion files in a single folder – so not a limit you’re likely to run into on a daily basis.

For the older FAT32 file system the limit was around 65 thousand, and on FAT16 I believe the limit was 512 in a sub directory, and around 150 in the root.

What is your question?
