Are there Lifeguard Training or Swim Instructor Classes?
Lifeguard Training (LGT) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) classes are offered through the Aquatics Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. You must be at least 15 years old to attend the Lifeguard Training Class (LGT) and at least 16 years old to attend the Water Safety Instructor (WSI) class. Lifeguard Training (LGT) is a class that trains prospective lifeguard candidates according to the guidelines set forth by the American Red Cross. There is a 400 yard swimming pre-test consisting of 100 yards front crawl (freestyle), 100 yards breaststroke and the remaining 200 yards can be a mix of the two strokes. Upon completion of the class, students will receive certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid and Lifeguarding.
