Are there liability concerns for providers?
Duke-employed practitioners participating in Project Access with the approval of their Department chair will be covered by their Duke liability insurance. Medical Mutual and probably other medical liability carriers will cover their subscribers for this charitable activity. In addition, NC General Statute 90-21.16 protects from liability health care professionals who render services at no charge to patients referred by nonprofit community health centers or nonprofit free clinics.
