Are there language varieties of different types in PanLex?
While languages are often classified (“standard”, “vernacular”, “dialect”, “official”, “Romance”, etc.), PanLex requires those who create varieties to classify them in only two ways: synonymy and ambiguity. A variety that permits synonymy permits anyone to assign any meaning to multiple expressions in the variety; a variety that permits ambiguity permits anyone to assign multiple meanings to any expression in the variety.
