Are there future extensions of serial ATA planned?

0

In February 2002, a Serial ATA II working group was announced with the charter to enhance the Serial ATA 1.0 specification. The group stated that they intend to add enhancements for the server and networked storage market segments as well as deliver second-generation signaling speed while maintaining compatibility with serial ATA 1.0 products. It is expected that over the next ten years the data rate of serial ATA will increase to 6 megabytes per second.
