Are there extra security precautions to ensure the RFID chip is not read by an unauthorized source?
Yes. You will receive your card in an envelope that protects the RFID chip from being read. You will also receive a protective sleeve for your card when it is mailed to you. This sleeve will also protect the RFID chip from being read. However, if your RFID chip is read by an unintended scanner, the scanner would be able to retrieve the RFID Tag Value only. That number could not be used to access your personal information stored on the secure CBSA database.
