Are there exemptions from the MCLE educational requirement?
Yes. The MCLE Rules provide for exemptions for the following categories: (1) An attorney is exempt the calendar year during which he or she was first admitted to practice [in Oklahoma]. (2) Judges who, during the entire calendar year, are prohibited from the private practice of law. (3) Members of the US Congress, during the entire calendar year (4) Members of the Oklahoma Legislature, during the entire calendar year (5) The Attorney General of the State of Oklahoma, during the entire calendar year (6) Members of the armed forces on full-time active duty, during the entire calendar year (7) An attorney who attains the age of 65 before or during the calendar year. (8) An attorney who, during the entire calendar year, is a nonresident of Oklahoma and did not practice law in Oklahoma.
