Are there doctors trained in palliative care?
Yes – palliative care specialists are doctors that are experts in pain and symptom control, particularly for people with advanced cancer. They work closely with your oncologist and GP and are part of the palliative care team. The palliative care team who are responsible for both the physical and emotional aspects of people with advanced cancer may also include: Nurses – palliative care nurse, clinical nurse specialist or community nurse. Physiotherapists Occupational therapists Social workers Other doctors Your hospital doctor or nurse will be able to answer your questions about the hospital palliative care team, and your GP will have information about the community palliative care teams that provide treatment at home.
