Are there Different Ways To Meditate?
There are countless ways to meditate! Sitting on a beach watching the waves is a meditation; sitting on your back porch watching the leaves blow in the wind is a meditation; watching a candle flame is a meditation. These are focus meditations where you focus on something specific to the exclusion of all else. That is, no thoughts of anything else, only the wave, the leaf or the flame. There is no rule for how to sit, or hold your hands or breathe or anything else. Then, there is the transcendental meditation, which follows specific guidelines as to the way you sit, breathe, hold your hands etc. There is the guided meditation where you visualize a peaceful place- a garden, a forest, or even float up into space if you want to. There are countless books on the subject. But they are all subject to what feels right FOR YOU. The rules are – there are no rules.
