Are there different types of résumés?
Generally speaking, there are three different types of résumés: chronological, functional and combination. A chronological résumé is the most common type of résumé and for recent graduates who may or may not have career-related experience. This format lists information in a reverse-chronological order. A functional résumé is intended for individuals who have more than seven years of experience in several different areas. As the name suggests, it focuses on functions and skills that you have and not just when you did those things. For example, if you were a department manager 10 years ago, those skills are still relevant today, even though it has been awhile since you were in the position. As the name suggests, combination résumés combine the two previously listed formats for those who want to include more details about their individual jobs or have multiple skills learned at one company/organization.
