Are there different types of obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd)?

There aren’t different defined sub-types according to professionals, but the obsessions are varied. So yes, there are different ‘types’ of OCD. If it’s bothering you, then you should definitely get it checked out. Without treatment, it often gets worse. The only subtypes that are typically called are ‘normal’ OCD (which is sounds like you have) and Pure-O (obsessions without physical compulsions, mainly mental ones). There are no specific things you have to have to qualify as having OCD. OCD is a way of thinking, meaning that a person gets an obsession, and then finds a compulsion to lessen the strength of the obsession and the anxiety/discomfort it causes. In me, for example, I have OCD to do with tapeworms. It’s bizarre and I’ve never met anyone with the same sort of obsession, but my psychiatrist and therapist agree that it is OCD.
