Are there different types of Chain-of-Custody (CoC) certificates?
Yes. Single Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) CoC certificates are the most common and are issued to individual companies with annual audits of each operational facility included in the certificate scope. There are additional certificate types as follows: Multi-site certification is optional for companies that operate with several facilities and set up a “Central Office” to manage the certificate. Group certification is an option for several independent, small operations joining together under a common association and designating a “Group Manager” to manage the certificate. Both group and multi-site CoC certification allow certification bodies to evaluate participating operations or sites based on sampling in recognition of existing common, centrally administered, and monitored control and reporting systems, thereby reducing the direct auditing costs.
