Yes, there are three basic “grades” of asphalt. I-2 or base, I-5 or top, and I-4 or commercial top. Base (consists mainly of 3/4″ stone) is primarily used in comstabilizing level. Top is used fore residential and commercial applications. Top, as its name suggests is the top coating in commercial and residential applications. Commercial top (consists of a mix of 3/4″ and 3/8″ stone) is used as top when additional stability is necessary.
