Are there different “flavors” of RPR? Do all companies within the RPR Alliance approach RPR in the same manner?
RPR is a new networking paradigm and not a standard yet. IEEE 802.17 will be a standard for RPR in the future. Several vendors have implemented their concept of RPR. Their approaches are consistent with key values of RPR that distinguish it from other technologies. Each of these vendors also has special value added features that provides them uniqueness in various focused application areas. The RPR Alliance member companies are united in their understanding that industry needs an RPR standard, and in their commitment to work together cooperatively to create that standard.
