Are there data available on the standard deviation of high and low temperatures?

I am always curious as to whether the temperature on any particular day is really abnormal in the sense that it is outside the first standard deviation of the average. A: Records for many weather stations kept by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville, N.C., do include the standard deviations of the high and low temperatures. NCDC has this data on a CD ROM, and maybe in other formats. You’ll find links to the NCDC web site from our weather history page. Here you’ll find information on ordering information from NCDC.
