Are there countries with a socialistic type of government?
The only one I know of for certain is Sweden, although I’m sure there are others. The reason I know of Sweden is because I have a friend who lives there. This individual is unemployed and has been for years. Yet, he is not required to work or look for work, and the Swedish government pays his rent, food and other expenses. That may sound like a Utopia; however, how many people here in the United States would want to be dependent on a limited government stipend when they are healthy and able to provide for themselves? While Socialism may be beneficial in some ways, it wouldn’t go over so big in the United States, whose citizenship prefers to be self-governing. I am not a political pundit, so I can’t really get into detail about the subject, but the only advantage I can see is where the government would step in and assist with medical expenses. I know you’re thinking about the government-sponsored programs here in the States. But the big difference is that people who get government assis
No, socialist countries don’t exist, only mock-socialist and mock-communist countries. The person who made the comment above about Sweden being socialist and that you don’t need to work, is absolutely clueless. Sweden is a modern, democratic country with multinational corporations, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, freedom to vote for whoever they want, women’s rights, and a prosperous, well educated and rather healthy population. Don’t listen to mindless drones like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity or Bill O’Rielly.
Pretty much ALL countries are socialist right now. Central banks co-ordinate policy at a global level. They set interest rates and control the money supply. Price controls and government regulations are the rule rather than the exeption all over the world. Governments and local authorities own a huge proportion of the national infrastructure and account for around 50% of the GDP in countries like Britain and the United States.
