Are there cost controls on the outside legal counsel?

All invoices from litigation legal counsel are reviewed prior to payment. Counsel has represented the district in every aspect of this highly complex case to date, including, in response to the plaintiff demands, analyzing and providing more than 20,000 documents; preparing numerous district elected officials, consultants and administrative personnel for depositions and trial; and complying with an extensive legal briefing schedule; as well as filing and arguing a defense motion to have the case dismissed on summary judgment. We were also required to fully prepare for a preliminary injunction proceeding in August 2010 on a plaintiff’s motion that was withdrawn the day before the hearing. Plaintiff deposed all of the board members and an extensive list of administrators and consultants.
