I think it would be easiest if I just explained how it worked over here – because it is different. All kids legally have to go to school until they are 16. We study a wide range of subjects (with some choice) up until then. We sit exams (called GCSEs) at that point – usually in about 9-12 subjects. We don’t “graduate” or get a “GPA” or anything like you do. We just get the different grades in our different GCSEs. People are then free to leave school and do what they want. Going onto further study can be done a number of ways. The most “academic” way – which is the usually route if you want to go to uni – is to do A-levels. We study 3-5 A-levels in different subjects of our choice over 2 years (so if you go straight from school that is ages 16-18). This can be done either in a school with a “sixth form” or at what we call a college (or sixth form college).
