Are there changes to the annual performance review currently required of all teachers?
A. Yes. The Regents will revamp the existing requirement for an annual performance review (CR 100.2(o)) of all teachers. The new regulations will contain model criteria for performance review consistent with the new teacher standards recommended by the Regents. Districts may require additional criteria for performance reviews. Administrators will receive training in how to perform staff evaluations. A significant addition is contained in the Regents recommendations. Classroom teachers whose performance is evaluated as unsatisfactory will be required to undertake a “teacher improvement plan” which will be established by the district in consultation with the teacher. This plan may include peer review and assistance and professional development activities to meet the needs of the teacher. Recommendations Affecting Currently Employed Teachers and Future Teachers • Q. Has tenure been affected? A. No. Tenure is a provision of state law and the Regents have no authority to change state law. C
