Are there bike and pedestrian paths on the river bridge and along Hwy 61?
Yes, an extensive bike/pedestrian trail system is part of the Wakota Project. A trail/sidewalk is provided on the westbound river bridge that allows bicyclists and pedestrians to cross the river. The trail system provides access to the levee trail in South St. Paul along the west side of the river and the new trails on the east side of the river along Hwy 61 extend from St. Paul to St. Paul Park. Trails are also provided along portions of Maxwell, 7th Avenue, Hastings Avenue, Bailey Road, Glen Road, and 70th Street. Access to bicyclists and pedestrians over Hwy 61 are provided at the Maxwell/Bailey overpass, 20th Street pedestrian bridge, Glen Road overpass, 12th Street pedestrian bridge, and the St. Paul Park Road overpass. Note: The trail connecting the river bridge to Verderosa Ave was completed in November 2007 and is now open. The City of South St. Paul plans to maintain the trail on the bridge this winter and keep it open.
