Are there archeological sites?

Yes. We will see ancient petroglyphs (rock art) as well as some small structures and sets of ancient steps carved into the cliffs. These archeological sites have been in the canyons since the ancient people left, 900 years ago. The Escalante area was populated by the “Fremont” culture, an Anasazi-equivalent society that farmed and hunted in the northern Escalante canyons area.
