December 19, 2009 More than 100 flights canceled at BWI – so far The arrivals/departures screens at BWI-Marshall Airport must be looking pretty grim this morning. Already, more than 150 departing flights have been canceled, according to FlightStats.com, most of those to destinations along the East Coast and in the Midwest.If you’re headed someplace warm and sunny, you may have better luck getting off the ground. Southwest Airlines, the leading carrier at BWI, cancelled a majority of its flights to/from BWI up until 2 p.m., when they will reassess the weather. Flights to Boston, Chicago, New York, Minneapolis, etc. were canceled, but if you had the good fortune to have an early morning flight, a few of those did get out, headed to places like Tampa, Orlando, Fort Myers, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Jamaica. Here is an update on the BWI Airport weather delays today. BWI has weather delays, some less than 30 minutes, some as much as 6 hours, caused by weather service interruption at Philadelphia International. FAA Air Traffic Control reports BWI Airport weather delays will be significant if your flight was routed through Philly. But otherwise, delays are decent, less than 30 minutes, reports FAA updates as of 9:42 AM EST Saturday. Baltimore-Washington International Airport’s update by the FAA currently reads: “Delays by Destination: “Due to WEATHER / SNOW-ICE, departure traffic destined to Philadelphia International Airport, Philadelphia, PA (PHL) is currently experiencing delays averaging 6 hours and 11 minutes.
