Are there any traditions/customs concerning food e.g preparation, eating it ??
Answer Stir frying in a wok is the most common way to prepare food. Chinese stove tops (and ovens are rare — just a two-burner stove top attached to a tank of gas outside the kitchen — some women even have their stoves outside as well, to keep it cool) — have an extra large burner on one side with higher prongs to set the wok in for stability. A Chinese oven, with four burners like we have is actually a three-burner oven — two on one side and a big one situated on the other, between where the two others would be. Super long chopsticks are used and a very high flame. A lot of oil is used. Spices and vinegar are added to the oil and then the vegetables; vegetables are set aside and then the meat is cooked (can be vice-versa), then all is put together and stirred quickly and served. Dishes are served one at a time, not all set out at once on the table as we do. Soup is served last — it is to wash down the food. Dessert is often fresh fruit, like watermelon and/or oranges.
