Are there any Star Wars books coming up that take place in the Old Republic Era?
Yes. Also known as the Sith Era or the Knights of the Old Republic Era, the “Old Republic Era” refers to the vast time period in Star Wars history prior to the supposedly final defeat of the Sith a thousand years before the movies. Though this era had been explored in the past by the Dark Horse’s comic book series Tales of the Jedi and Jedi vs. Sith, the era was made especially popular recently by the excellent LucasArts video games Knights of the Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Now Dark Horse Comics is about to begin a new series, also titled Knights of the Old Republic, and to answer the original question, there is at least one Star Wars novel being planned for this era. Set for an October 2006 release, the as-yet-untitled hardcover novel is being written by Drew Karpyshyn, who also worked on the story for the Knights of the Old Republic game. More Old Republic Era novels are a possibility for 2008 and beyond, but there are no concrete plans yet. Both
