Are there any special considerations for PDFs who also have teaching responsibilities?
A Yes; post-doctoral Fellows who are hired as course instructors or TAs fall within the scope of the collective agreement between the University of Toronto and CUPE 3902 for the teaching component of their work. Such PDFs must be appointed under CUPE 3902, are subject to deductions for appropriate union dues, and are eligible for benefits under the terms and conditions of the collective agreement, such as the dental rebate program. Failure to appoint correctly for this teaching work, as covered by CUPE 3902, would be a violation of the collective agreement, and would be grievable by the union.
