You could go check your local TV channel websites and see what they are doing there. It could be that they will have streaming video of their news broadcasts or some of their non-network shows available for Internet viewing. Many networks such as TNT have some episodes of their most popular series available for watching across the wire. (Go to http://www.tnt.tv to see what TNT has to offer currently.) As for getting things that might interest your 5-year old child, you could try going to the PBS website at http://www.pbs.org and see if they have any Sesame Street reruns or something available. Beyond this, you could try spending some time with the child playing checkers, coloring, reading, or otherwise entertaining the child yourself.
