There are a lot of free resources; however, you have to really search to get them. Some newspapers have free archives that go back eight to ten years, others only allow free access for 14 days. There are ways around that though. Say for example you have a newspaper that you can only go back fourteen days for free before you have to pay. Familiarize your self with the websites of the funeral homes in that area. Many times, funeral homes will have an obituary and picture of the people whom they service. They will often have an archive too depending on when they started going online. Also, check with the Genweb page for the county in which you are looking for information. Some genweb pages have people that have actively collected obituaries and put them on the site.
