Are there any side effects to the local anaesthetic?
You have been given a local anaesthetic injection of Lidocaine 1%. The nurse will check the expiry date and will ensure that the medicine has been stored at the correct temperature before giving you the injection. Like all medicines, Lidocaine may cause side effects. Some of the possible side effects include: sleepiness, dizziness, vertigo, confusion, blurred vision, slurred speech, difficulty in swallowing, noise in ears trembling, tingling, flushing, chills, restlessness, irritability, euphoria, hallucinations, depressions, loss of appetite, feeling sick or vomiting. The following side effects may occur very rarely and usually only if you have received an overdose: convulsions (fits), reduced consciousness, including unconsciousness, breathing difficulties, reduced blood pressure, low pulse rate, abnormal heart rate or shock.
