Are there any scientific studies that indicate EMF levels are harmful?
Some epidemiological studies have suggested an average exposure over 3 – 4 milliGauss (mG) may increase the risk of a child suffering leukemia. However, these results are not consistent over all studies and have not been confirmed through in vivo or in vitro studies. Furthermore, these studies have not determined a cause-and-effect mechanism that would explain increased risk. These studies have been factored into to the major health agencies’ consensus view that EMF produced by power lines does not present and increased health risk. In any event, computer modeling of the projected magnetic field levels reveal that at a distance of about 150m from the proposed 500 kV transmission line, the average magnetic field level is expected to be less than about 2 mG and will continue to diminish as you move further from the line.
