Are there any safety concerns with the runners running along side cars on the roads?
The entire route of the race will be closed to traffic, except for emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police cars, and official cars. It should be normally safe as long as the runners follow the official route. With the help of the Police and Transport Departments, different sections of roads will be closed for a specified period of time to allow runners to pass through. Besides, further measure to ensure safety is the setting of the time limits for each distance of the Marathon. For example, 10km runners have to complete the first half of the race within 60 minutes; marathon runners have to complete the full race within 5 hours 30 minutes. Official buses will pick up runners who cannot complete the specified distances in time. This ensures that all runners will be removed from the roads when traffic is re-opened.
