Just fyi, Judaism had such stringent rules around capital punishment that it was almost *never* carried out. A court which imposed the death sentence once in a generation was caused an “evil court”. In Judaism, in order to be convicted of a capital offense, the person had to be of legal age; s/he had to have been seen *and* warned ahead of time by two witnesses, also of legal age; and s/he had to have acknowledged that s/he heard the witnesses, understood that s/he was being warned, and that the offense was punishable by death. Then the witnesses were examined, and if their stories wer not identical in every respect, the person was acquitted.
