Absolutely, Miller was one of the last great tragedy writers. Tragedies traditionally lack a happy ending but provide a sense of relief and a feeling that the hero has attained a personal sense of dignity despite the normally sad ending, the releif felt by both characters and audiences is called catharsis. I think its tricky to indentify a hero in this tragedy. If its willy, then the cathartic nature of the ending is that he finally through his death is able to support his family through the insurance money. If its biff, then despite the tragic loss of his father he has gained his approval for the lifestyle he wishes to lead and has rid his family of the denial which has plagued it for years.
