From January 1 2002 Longyearbyen has become a municipality, with an elected community council of 15 members. For the election period 2004 2008, these 15 members represent 4 parties: The Labour Party(6 members), The Local City Group(5 members), The Conservatives(2 members) and The Progress Party(2 members).
