Are there any places near Wilmington that have stand-up comedy?
2009 saw the opening of the Nutt Street Comedy Room, which books nationally touring comedians in its basement home of 255 N. Front St., Wilmington [Map this]. No touring comedians are booked at Nutt Street until Feb. 19-20, when the comedian Jarrod Harris is scheduled to appear, but the venue typically has touring stand-ups at 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays as well as an open mic stand-up night at 9 p.m. each Thursday. (To participate, you have to sign up before the show begins.) For more info, go to www.Facebook.com/NuttStreetComedy or call (888) 727-6888. City Stage, at 21 N. Front St., Wilmington [Map this], occasionally has stand-up comics, and on Feb. 5-6 it will host Laughing for Life II, a stand-up comedy showcase/benefit. More info is at www.LaughingForLife.org. The Association for Campus Entertainment occasionally schedules stand-up comedy at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Comics Dan Cummins and Rob O’Reilly perform Jan. 26 at the Burney Center. More info is at
