Actually, ever since News Corp bought out MySpace in 2005, the VP Sales and COO wanted to return to the entrepreneurial spirit and actually started a new in-house company called Slingshot. There was an article in the LA Business Journal on the March 30 – April 5, 2009 issue about how the execs actually got about $15 million in funding for the next two years to build big companies based on hot internet trends. One trend that they notices in particular was the insatiable desire for celebrity gossip and short snippets of info (per the twitter rage). Combining those two interests, they created a new site called DailyFix.com, which has quirky commentary on celebrity news that’s mostly based from other sites’ information. It sounds like it cost around half a million dollars to start up, but they are expecting it to begin to make top dollars and be a leader in quick gossip information on celebrities. They are not so much interested in a few small-time million-dollar ideas, they are geared towarda full-throttle major stake in the celebrity gossip sector.
