Pregnancy: The safety of lactulose in pregnancy has not been established. Lactulose should be used during pregnancy only if benefits outweigh risks. Diabetes: Lactulose is broken down to the sugars galactose and lactose in the intestine. Check with a doctor before using this medication. Elderly: People over 65 years of age or debilitated patients who receive lactulose for more than six months should have their blood levels of serum electrolytes (potassium, chloride, carbon dioxide) checked regularly. What other drugs could interact with ratio-Lactulose? Lactulose can affect the absorption of other medications. Other medications should be taken at least two hours after the dose of lactulose.
