The popular beaches are all ‘protected’ meaning it is reserved for the tourist and locals don’t even get to use their own beach. Thus yes, it is possible to be nude on the beach but it is highly advisable not to. The government is corrupt and so is the police with extortion being a common occurrence, though tourists are protected in the ‘tourist zone’ I wouldn’t risk giving them an excuse to drag you down to the police station for a quick ‘chat’ and a ‘fee’. Remember, you represent the valuable chunk of Gambia’s GDP but with such an extreme difference in wealth per capita (as well as cultural difference), there is sentiment of resentment.
