In the past year we opened our cardiac catherization lab in Augusta and we did a major expansion of our Maine Dartmouth family practice site in Fairfield. The issues we’re working on now are our current emergency departments. They’re both undersized by about a factor of 50 percent in Augusta and Waterville. Emergency department use has increased tremendously over the last several years. We also have needs in oncology (treatment for tumors). Unfortunately, the number of patients with cancer is increasing and our Augusta department is really undersized. We’re working on how to provide more space for our oncology department in Augusta. Will the planned work on Memorial Bridge in Augusta cause disruptions at the Augusta campus? We have a wonderful relationship with the city and the (Department of Transportation) and the City Council.
