Are there any native( texan) aquarium fishes ?
Technically, any fish could be kept in an aquarium and long as 1) you have a large enough tank to keep it and 2) you can provide the type of environment it needs. You’ll also need to check with your state’s fish laws to see if keeping wild-caught fish requires any type of license or permit (in some states, a fishing license is all that’s needed, others require permits in addition). I’ve kept native fish from my own state and find minnows, darters, catfish, and panfish are the easiest to care for, and most can do okay in room-temperature water. Other species may require a chiller on the tank, and that runs into more expense than I typically want to have. Depending on where you live in Texas, sailfin mollies and mosquitofish, fish sold in the aquarium trade, are native species. If you prefer cichlids, the Rio Grande cichlid is the only native cichlid in the US. You may find some useful info in the “captive care” listings by this organization:
