Are there any major differences in developing timekeeping devices for the winter and the summer Olympics?
Not really. Obviously there are specific requirements for certain sports but the technology and philosophy behind the development are similar and so there’s considerable overlap in the devices for timing summer and winter sports. What’s the most demanding sport in the Olympics as far as timekeeping is concerned? All the sports provide their own challenges but athletics requires an incredible amount of manpower and equipment – we measure a number of different events and are not only recording times but also distances. It keeps our hands full! Which is your favourite discipline in the Olympics and why?
