“Dot pitch” on a CRT is a mighty misleading statistic. It only tells you the spacing of the holes in the shadow mask. The actual electron beam spot size is always much larger than the spacing. In addition, the dynamic tracking of the three RGB electron beams is not perfect, usually exceeding the spot size, especially near the screen edges. So for a CRT, “dot pitch” is not all that tightly related to anything you might want, such as “crispness”, or “sharpness”. You can have a CRT with .21 mm dot pitch but with only a little misfocusing, 0.5mm spot size and 0.75 mm convergence. For a LCD screen there are no confounding factors of spot size or misconvergence– the spot size is always the same as the pitch and there can be no misconvergence at all. So the pitch is definitive. Maybe if you have extremely good eyesight you can see the color triads on a LCD screen, but I am unable to do so, even from an inch away and squinting. ————- One completely different possibility might have to
