Are there any industrial applications of Claisen condensations and /or Cannizzaro reactions?
Claisen reaction is important to synthetic chemists (e.g. in the pharmaceutical industry) as large molecules can be built up quite quickly from small ‘building blocks’ I’d have thought the Cannizzaro reaction is less use synthetically as (possibly) half of the product (the acid or the alcohol) may be unwanted.
