Yes. As one of the steps in the visa evaluation process, the United States Consulate in the applicants home country will require the applicant, as a condition of obtaining the visa, to reveal if he/she has any communicable diseases. If the consul has any suspicions regarding the applicants health, a complete medical examination will be required at the office of a doctor or clinic of the consulates choosing. The examination includes blood tests for communicable diseases. If the candidate shows positive on any of these tests the consulate will not issue a visa for the purpose of employment in the United States. In the case of nurse applicants for Green Cards, the complete medical examination is a condition of issuance.
