Are there any health concerns with having a tattoo over a birthmark?
No…….but opinions vary I am sure. I have a huge cross that I had them tattoo over my vaccination mark I have had since 5. Its been there along time and I have had no problems. I have seen women who have had their breasts removed due to cancer have tattooing done on their chests to hide the scars, also burn scars have been covered up. I have alot of scarring from a seurgery two years ago on my upper left arm, and I have a huge back piece that I want to extend on my upper shoulderi in an attempt to cover up 4 small holey looking scars.
Answer Mike, I have all the respect in the world for Doctors but as I am fond of saying…. “You would not come to me to set a broken bone, don’t go to a Doctor to get a tattoo.” Doctors do not know nor have the training to know how tattoo pigment interacts with the skin and body. They also do not know of the numerous interactions that can occur between the pigment and skin. Introducing the tattoo pigment into any skin abnormality can cause cell mutation which can lead to a malignancy. To help you understand this a little better it is good to know how the body perceives a tattoo. When you get a tattoo the body thinks that it just received a 2nd degree sunburn. Exposing the tattoo to ultra violet rays during the healing period can lead to a 3rd degree sunburn which can lead to skin cancer. This holds true for tattooing over any skin abnormality.
