Are there any government taxes or charges in Samui that we should be aware of?
A. Yes. Thailand is subject to a government tax on all purchases and services called VAT (7%). If you keep your receipts, there are a number of things you can reclaim as you leave Thailand. You will see signs at the airport letting you know where to go and what to fill out to get your VAT refund. At Samui Beach Village and the majority of the restaurants hotels and spas on the island, you will encounter a service charge. This service charge is given to the staff at the end of every month for all the hard work and service they provide to the many tourists on the island. The service charge at Samui Beach Village is 10%. We thank you for your understanding and helping us give back to the people of Thailand.
